Journey Towards Success
Pharmed Distributors (Pvt) Ltd. recorded its establishment in 1983 (1983 April 24) when founder late Mr. Nihal Fonseka and Dr. Sivapalan Gnanapandithan opened a small distribution center in Mr. Fonseka's premises, Moratuwa as a Partnership. At that stage, Pharmed's main agency was Gemssen Pharmaceuticals. Initially the purchases were executed on cash basis and those were distributed within a limited teritory. The partnership operated with three employees and one van.
In 1987, Pharmed incorporated as a Private Company with three directors, and expanded its fast-growing pharmaceutical distribution business to Western Province. At that time it had about 40 employees. In less than a decade, Pharmed became a prominent regional pharmaceutical distributor by gradually improving its agencies.
Since then, Pharmed has evolved further, serving health care manufacturers and patient care providers around western province by expanding its services to Colombo 1 - 15, Negombo, Gampaha, Kirindiwala and Aluthgama. Pharmed recorded its peak with 22 distribution vans and 87 employes.
Another significant milestone is that Pharmed is the only distribution company which continously held the position of the treasurer for 18 years since 1996 to 2015 at Sri Lanka Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry. Mr. H.A.A. Priyantha, the current chairman held the tresurer position representing Pharmed Distributors (Pvt) Ltd during that period till his retirement from the Tresurer position at SLCPI in 2015.
Today, Pharmed provides integrated offering of services to hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare providers to meet the growing challenges of a dynamic industry. Pharmed Distributors (Pvt) Ltd. is a health care industry services provider that applies vast resources, knowledge and expertise to help healthcare manufacturers and patient care providers to meet their most pressing challenges, while providing better, safer delivery of care.
